Hypnosis and Surgery

Sunday, April 18th, 2010

A couple of months ago I had the occasion to get a slice in the back of my hand, went to my Doc and was sent to the ER to get it stitched up. Eight hours later I walked out with three stitches and a script for antibiotics. Four days later on a Monday I was to see my Doc so he could check the progress of healing. We found that the type of infection needed another type of antibiotic, so there was a prescription adjustment.

I was taking the antibiotics for the hand, and it healed up fine but my middle finger was swelling up and I was sent to a hand surgeon. After careful study he determined that the major infection was in the tendon sheath for the center finger on my right hand. Antibiotics can not penetrate tendon sheaths so the cure is to do surgery to open the finger and clean out the infection.

As I am getting ready for the surgery I go into my usual self hypnosis routine to aid in the success of the procedure and eliminate any residual pain along with promoting rapid healing. I was doing this right up to the time of going into surgery.

I saw my surgeon last Monday and he was amazed at how quickly and completely my healing was especially after the major problem that brought me to him. I could see that he looks like he is now opening up to the possibility (just a little) that hypnosis can be a very beneficial tool/aid to health and healing.

Hypnosis and Weight Loss

Read what Dr Sears has to say about Hypnosis and weight loss, really good.

Al Sears, MD

Dear Keith,

I’ll bet, at one time or another, losing weight has been on your list of New Year’s resolutions… Did you make it stick?

Losing weight – and keeping it off – is an obvious challenge. But there’s more to it than choosing the right foods. In many cases, the habits and daily routines causing your problem are much harder to recognize.

In my previous letters I’ve given you simple, easy-to-follow advice for burning fat fast. But here’s the bottom line: If you fall back into old patterns you’ll never make any progress.

If you have trouble breaking old habits, I have a solution I recommend to my patients - and I can tell you it works. I consistently get good results.

Studies show that the tried and tested technique of hypnosis is a surprisingly effective option for weight loss.

For instance:

  • Researchers divided 60 women on diets into two groups. One underwent hypnosis while the other just tried to “stick with it.” The hypnosis group lost an average of 17 pounds. The other group lost an average of only half of a pound.1
  • A “meta-analysis” looked at a number of studies to see if combining hypnosis with weight loss had a positive effect. It revealed that hypnosis increased weight loss by an average of 97%. More importantly, hypnosis helped people keep the weight off after dieting by a whopping 146%. In other words, it not only helps you lose weight—it helps you to stay slender long after you’ve stopped dieting.2

Those are impressive numbers… But many of my patients are skeptical when they first hear about medical hypnosis. I understand their quizzical looks when I bring up the idea, but it’s no longer a controversial technique. In fact, hypnosis is now “mainstream.”

The American Medical Association and the British Medical Association both endorse hypnosis as a proven technique for getting and staying healthy.

Even the prestigious Wall Street Journal published a piece a few years ago that said, “Numerous scientific studies have emerged in recent years showing that the hypnotized mind can exert a real and powerful effect on the body.”3

If you do a little poking around, you’ll see there’s an entire field of research and practice dedicated to finding new ways to use hypnosis to improve your health.

You can find a physician near you who’s familiar with medical hypnosis as a form of therapy. There are also books and CDs that will teach you how to do it on your own.

My favorite is the “hypno-therapy” diet plan called “Enjoying Weight Loss.”

This 8-session program was designed by the world’s leading hypnosis expert, Dr. Roberta Temes. She wrote the definitive text on the subject, The Idiot’s Guide to Hypnosis, and remains the leading authority on hypnosis and weight loss.

I highly recommend it. It works.

To Your Good Health,

Al Sears, MD

P.S.  – Here’s a good story from someone who’s tried the program:

“I am now down 20 pounds and still have not had any problems with stress eating (my lifetime habit is to overeat). I am also walking close to 5,000 steps per day now (a little over 2.5 miles) and into a size 16 from a 20/22 and people are finally beginning to notice. I personally thank you for your program even though I don’t understand how it works. I am starting to like who I see in the mirror.”

Hypnosis becoming more accepted!

Tuesday, December 30th, 2008

A couple of weeks ago in my local newspaper I came across almost a full page article about hypnosis. This article was written by Jane E. Brody of The New York Times.

I think that she did a very good job of portraying hypnosis realistically. She starts off with the experience of her husband who wanted to stop smoking and went to a hypnotist after being unable to quit on his own. He did not think he was hypnotized, yet he has not had to smoke in fourteen years.

She attempts, I think, successfully to clear up some misunderstandings about hypnosis. She has interviewed a number of hypnotists including Dr. Brian Alman who states that “The power of hypnosis resides in the patient and not in the doctor.” In other words if I think that hypnosis will not work at all going in, I am probably correct. If I am open or very positive then it probably will work for me  even if I do not think that I was hypnotized like the authors husband.

The author also talks about some of the uses in medical and dental settings. How hypnosis can be used for pain control and other medical situations. How it can help to eliminate long standing fears and how to change or remove unwanted habits.

Overall I think that she did a very good job of helping people in the general readership population to  get a better understanding of what hypnosis can do for each and every one of us. Well done Jane! Thanks for helping to spread the good word.

The Olympics and Hypnosis

Wednesday, July 30th, 2008

I just realized that very soon the Olympics are going to be taking place in China. This brought to mind the connection between athletic performance and hypnosis.

These athletes who are going to be participating have been training for this upcoming event for a long time, sometimes most of their lives. They have focus!

They start by working with one or more coaches, and trainers. They start developing their bodies for the event(s) that they feel drawn to. With their support team they start developing their particular routines for their event.

Where does Hypnosis come in? These people have been working toward this upcoming event, sometimes for most of their lives. They spend long hours with their coaches and trainers doing the physical part of their training ( I said that they are focused!). There is also another part that the really good ones participate in, that is the mental preparation for their event.

When they are not physically training, they take time to go over their routines again and again mentally. They work on the fine details of their physical workout. In their subconscious they fine tune their performance by going step by step through their routine to get it perfect.

They are getting into the hypnotic zone. This helps them program their body to execute their routine with perfection so that when they are out on the floor and engaged in their performance they do not have to think about each upcoming move that they need to do for their routine.

When they go out to perform their routine, before they start, they take some time to focus (you can watch them do this), they go into the Zone where they are being operated by the subconscious mind which has also trained extensively for this moment.

Sometimes during their performance they make an error, I believe that this is where they attempt to take conscious control of their performance versus using the internal programming they have developed.

When you see the Gold winner do their routine, what you see in flowing perfection of movement, every muscle is doing just what is needs to do at just the right time. This is the result of excellent self hypnosis in action! They have done that routine thousands of time both physically AND mentally. Self hypnosis is an excellent tool.

Hypnosis Survey

Saturday, July 5th, 2008

I thought that it would be good to involve my readers in a new project that I am undertaking. This project is a survey about hypnosis. It is composed of four short questions which are:

1) Male/Female

2) age,  20’s, 30’s 40’s 50+

3) What do you know about Hypnosis?

4) If it did work, what three things would you use it for?

Simple, straight forward. I ask that you submit your answers to “comments@HypnoticPro.com” and if you care to post comments  here in the blog feel free to do that.

Life is to be lived.

Wednesday, June 11th, 2008

I was looking through a forum on hypnosis and there were posts about past life regressions. One in particular spoke to me.  I do past life regressions with some of my clients and it usually enables them to find some item or two that can be used by them to their benefit in this life.

This gentleman was escorted on a past life regression and was able to experience a few past lives. One in particular stuck with him. In one of his lives he was a Japanese Kamakazi  pilot who was killed on the ground attempting to help a buddy. He became very attached to this past life.

My point of view with past life work is to find something there  that can be brought back to this life for your benefit. Now this can be something that works well there and would also work well here or something that does not work there so that you do not have to learn all about it in this life the hard way. Either way, the life we are in is the life we are to be living now. Nothing wrong with learning more  about how to live this life better and more fully.

Hypnosis is a wonderful tool for learning more about self and improving your life and health. We all have our own specific past history (this life and others). we can not change our past, yet we can learn from it and change how we look at our past. Find the benefits in our history and when you access your past, use what you find to help yourself and others.

Be in health.

PS: I normally ask for comments about your thoughts on my blog. I have set up an email site for those of you who do not want to post in this blog. It is   comments@hypnoticpro.com  that is all for now.

Past Life Regression

Wednesday, May 14th, 2008

I use regression techniques while working with clients a lot. Past Life Regression is a very interesting area of work.

When doing basic regression we are staying within the confines of the clients actual life experience, from early childhood to present. This work is with the “real” experiences of the client whether easily remembered or deeply probed for. These are “real” world experiences.

Past life regression is a different experience. I have worked with clients doing past life regressions and they were able to achieve some very positive, useable results that benefitted them greatly. As to whether this experience is an adventure in a real past life or something like a dream, I can not say for sure.

My belief is that most of the time past life regressions are an adventure in the subconscious that frames the information as past life. This can be entertaining and it can also be a beneficial story being told by the subconscious mind. The object of the experience from the subconscious is to achieve the goal or objective that the client is looking to  come to terms with or gain healing from. Again I go back to Milton Erickson who was a great advocate of stories for healing.

There are many people who use this technique and many who study it in great detail. Yes it can be very beneficial to the client. Most of the studies determine that the great majority of these experiences fit into the realm of stories or imagination and a very small number might possibly be real past life regressions.

I am not going to debate real versus story. My concern is, is it beneficial to my client and does it help them in their healing. I think that many of the other hypnotists using this technique feel the same way. We want to help the client to health.

Feel free to add your personal comments to this post.

I need your help!

Thursday, May 1st, 2008

I am looking to write a new E-book about hypnosis. What I need from my readers is this. What are your biggest questions about hypnosis, such as “how does it work?”. ‘Is it safe?”. “will I be made to do things I would not normally do?”

You would not be reading this site unless you have some interest in hypnosis. Here is your opportunity  to get your personal questions answered. All questions have value.

What is it about hypnosis that you are questioning or unsure about? My getting to know what your concerns and questions are will allow me to tailor this E-book specifically for you. Each one of you that sends me your input will receive a free copy of the E-book when it is done. You give me your input and I give you a new E-book. Win win.

The best way to do that is to go to my Main Page and submit your name, e-mail and place your questions/comments in the comments field. Then send that information to me so that I can get a better understanding of what you need from me.

Also, feel free to leave additional comments here too.

Hypnosis live

Sunday, April 27th, 2008

I am considering reactivating my 1 on 1 practice for people who are located in Western Sonoma County. I very much enjoy working face to face. It is very personal and a deeper rapport can be developed quicker.

I have been doing this on an irrregular basis. Just recently I was working for a short time with a gentleman, seeing him reach deep inside and start to address something that he has not seen, let alone realized that it was there before is so exhilarating to witness.

He started with a very vague idea that something in his past might possibly be different than he could remember. Hypnosis is very good for doing memory work and finding forgotten or suppressed thoughts and/or ideas. I talked about this in a previous post (March 16, 2008), the Myth Busters did a TV show on this and found that it really is legitimate, it works well.

I do not do the work. You, my clients are the ones doing the work, I just show you the doors and access points as well as giving you various suggestions as where to focus so as to find your answers that enable you to do this work that you need to do.

It feels so rewarding to watch each of you do your work and know that I was able to help you achieve this betterment of your life, to help you unlock your hidden inner unknowns. Your fears, whatever it is that is holding you back from achieving what it is that you want and deserve.

Hypnosis is a powerful tool in helping you attain the better life you have been searching for for a long time. If you live in Sonoma County and are interested in working with me you can start by sending me an email at bluwizz@sonic.net with your contact information and we will talk and see what you want to do and how I can help you achieve what you want to do. Alternative, plan B is to go to my main site and sign up for my email updates and in the comments section put in your contact information. Click Here for main page.

This is exciting for me, I am looking forward to working with some of you locally.

I invite you to make comments on this post. Is this something that you would be interested in? Up, down or sideways, let me know your thoughts.

As always, be in health

Keith
